So here is what happened
I used one brush, one layer, one day
my computer is as tired as my wrist.
I wanted to see if i could still do digital after taking a year long break.
I think I can.

*if you were here when i freaked out. please excuse that. and ignore it. its funnier this way*

one brush, one layer..wow. this is amazing. the detail is spot on. i like the in-your-face perspective too and the way you did the DOF with the hair. i would love to be able to paint like this. top marks, no nits.

gotta love that nose and the eyes are so realistic!!

It looks great. The only problem I see is with the DOF: the blur starts too abruptly at the roots of his hair, but I think it should be more gradual than that.
The skin looks amazingly realistic :)
+10 (thumbup)

Inspiring, intriguing and individualistic. The extreme close up makes it a very personal painting to view... almost like we know this man. I haven't been here too long, but I don't think that I've seen a more "beautifuly" painted face. Beauty in the way each facial component is so lush in it's painterly execution. This is a painting with "meat" on it's bones - a "take no prisoners", uncompromising portrait taken to its exact creative limit. Not overdone, not underdone... just right! Excellent, Yulia!

Gorgeous work on his skin and especially his eyes! His facial hair seems a bit odd, though, somehow not as realistic as the rest of the painting. Still great work, though. ^__^

Hi, the reference is located here:

Are you sure you didn't use grids as help or traced a little? This looks like an exact reproduction.
By the way his eyes SO kick ass!

*this crit is edited, but it caused some confusion earlier, please ignore it, and please decide if you believe this is a trace for yourself, or if it isnt*

Hi there. Please read my first post.

Hello,

it was not my intention to offend anyone. And also I don't think tracing is evil, I just was curious and was looking for a honest answer. ;)

the individual strokes of color are fantastic. rendering is quite nice. i like how it blurs in the back, making the facial features pop. that is a spectacular nose. i could learn a lot of things from that nose. my only question is about the chin- it looks slightly less rendered compared to the nose/eyes/etc. i think it's really because the eyes are so well-done and realistic (even more so than the photographic source). excellent stuff. quite fun to look at. makes me want to go dig up my wacom.

wow this is superb, the detail in his skin. I agree the hair looks a little rushed, and the DOF is too abrupdt. Still great painting, Im jealous of your talent. How must you paint traditionally? beautifuly?
